If you’re looking for a way to cut excess calories from your diet, while adding more veggies, you’ve come to the right place. Not only can veggie noodles accomplish both of those goals; they’re delicious too.
Noodles based on wheat or grain nutrients are a staple in many diets, but unfortunately they’re packed with carbohydrates. And since they’re high on the glycemic index, many people pursuing a weight loss plan will avoid pasta. That can be difficult to do, since noodles are so tempting.
That’s why veggie noodles are such a terrific idea. Unlike traditional noodles, they’re not high in carbs. In fact, they’re not high in calories at all! And you can make them from a variety of vegetables, such as zucchini, beets, butternut squash, carrots, sweet potatoes, and more. Simply cut them into the right shape with a spiralizer or even a vegetable peeler, and you’re ready to enjoy a healthy, veggie-based meal.
You can boil your noodles for just a few minutes (recommended for sweet potato noodles) or simply enjoy them raw (as with zucchini noodles, or “zoodles”). Then, add your sauce, such as a pesto, marinara, or cream-based sauce (go easy on the cream sauces, obviously, if you’re following a weight loss plan).
You can also use veggie noodles in your favorite pasta salad recipe, or as a base for your favorite spicy Thai curry. In fact, once you add the rich flavor of a curry sauce to raw zucchini noodles, you might be surprised at how well the flavors meld together! You definitely won’t miss traditional noodles or rice in this case.
The thing to remember about veggie noodles is that experimenting will help you find your groove. Have fun trying out different flavor combinations. Following a weight loss plan should always be about learning new, healthier options that are also delicious. Switching your mindset from “deprive myself of good things” to “experiment with new flavors” is one of the primary keys to weight loss success.
